My first and difinitely not my last to experience the bizarre way in where people show their devotion to their faith. This is not for the faint hearted for it may possible to lose your limbs and your life if you are stubborn enough to touch the Black Nazarene during the procession. Though I went to the procession not as a devotee but rather as a photographer, and with the help of my telephoto lens (Canon 70-300 F/4) i was able to have a close-up glimpse of the event.
Some tips for first time photographers during Black Nazarene procession:
- it would be an advantage if you have a telephoto lens.
- bring an umbrilla to protect yourself (scorching heat from the sun and sudden rain is your enemy)
- prepare any plastic to protect your camera from getting wet
- always look for a high ground 1-2 hours before the procession will pass an area the once youll find one, stick to it.
- bring a light tripod
- Never put your wallet in your back pocket and always carry your bag in front of you.
