Where to stay in Iligan City - affordable and clean hotel

It was my first time with my kids to visit Iligan city during Diyandi Festival hoping to witness the street dancing competion, but unluckily the city administration changed the scheduled event to earlier date  due to the stand-off in Zamboanga city with the MNLF faction group. Nevertheless we witnessed the 25 bouts amateur boxing in Rizal park, the 1st Mayors cup drag race competition themed "Eat my dust VI" that takes place in Tambo highway and a rally by militant group with anti-pork barrel protest and mindanao call for peace in front of city post office same day as the nation 41st anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law.

I made few research in the net two nights prior our travel regarding the accomodation with the keywords in my mind "Where to stay in Iligan City?" &  "what hotel is affordable, with good service and just near the city proper of Iligan", but undecided with the information I gathered so instead I called up a friend from Iligan City and she recommended Jalexis Inn.

We took a bus from Bulua bus terminal in Cagayan De Oro City, it was a non-stop (RTMI) bus bound for Iligan City (fare 70.00 for S.P. -student priviledge) and we traveled for almost 1 hour and 45 minutes to reach our destination.

We ride a taxi just in front Iligan bus terminal, but beware prior getting a cab see to it first that they use there taxi meter for most of them are on "Pakyaw" basis.

Accomodation: JALEXIS INN

Address: 20 Zamora St., Barangay Poblacion

Rate: Single Deluxe room 530.00,  Double Deluxe room 630.00

Opinion: Perfect place to stay in the city proper, a clean and quality inn with a very spacious room. Almost all the jeepney route is passing by the place, if you want to go to Timoga Swimming pool or Gaisano mall you can take a jeepney just in front of the lobby, and walking distance to the Rizal Park and other big stablishment in the city.

Dis-advantage: Quite old elevator system, will take several minutes to reach 3rd floor.

How to get to Lake Apo, Guinoyuran, Valencia City, Province of Bukidnon

Crystal clear water of a crater lake in Barangay Guinoyoran in the City of Valencia in Bukidnon province in central mindanao. It is located in a hilly area about 640 metres (2,100 ft) in elevation, about 11 kilometres from town center .The lake was awarded the cleanest inland body of water in Northern Mindanao Region in the 1990s. The green body of water has an estimated area of 24 hectares (59 acres) with maximum depths reaching up to 26 m (85 ft).- wikipedia

I was astonished without any presage with clarity of the water and serenity of the place and a breath taking view. We rode our own motor bike with my kids travelling from Maramag for about an hour, it was a rugged trip as we began to ascend the road going to our destination and can be closely described as a dry river bed terrain, mainly cause by erosion. We were almost lost since there was not a single signage along the road, so if you are bringing your own vehicle, you must ask the locals along the road regarding directions.

3 untold secrets in Macro Photography

Macro photography is one of the most technically bounded genre in the craft of photography, in order to achieve aesthetic macro images you must be in full control with your camera, lights and sometimes with your subject if shooting indoors and the most ardous part is the post processing. Practicing macro photography for commercial use is one of my chore for stock images, during the early years of my trade submitting more or less 200 images in month is not an easy tasked specially if you are not working fulltime with your photography, and out of that 200 images you submitted that you think was the best, you will be dissapointed to know after the review of the agencies that only 30-70 were approved (less than 50%). But that is not always the case, you will eventually learn from your mistakes and improve in the areas you think you are lacking.

1. Always shoot in RAW format (mandatory in Macro Photography)- Your biggest advantage in RAW file format is in post processing that you have 65,536 levels to work with, compared with .JPEG/.JPG that you only have 256 levels available. It means you can have more flexibity in adjusting your images in the highest level of quality.

2. Slightest vibration can ruin your macros images-  a.)-so never shot without a sturdy tripod, b.) turn-off image stabilizer in your lens, c.) and put your lens into manual mode and learn to focus manually, d.)
always take a lot of photos in different angle of your subjects. (The dragonfly in my shot got almost 60 shots, but only 1 was useable for stock images), e.) use remote shutter release cable or self-timer to take the shot.

3. Set lowest aperture for your lens - start at f/11 to avoid images where some part is blurred or out of focus and other areas were focused (Dept-Of-Field), not unless you want to focus only on the insects eyes.

Thats all. Happy hunting to insects.

Earn from your photos- Sell them through micro stock images

You can earn from your photos, no start-up capital involved just your SLR camera and off you go. Been in this trade for couple of years now, 80% of my images were editorial in nature (those photos with identifiable human face where you don't have a model release) and 20% for commercial use. Though the income is not as prosperous as with wedding photography but yet you can earn from your photos instead of just posting it in the ever popular social networking sites e.g. Facebook, Flickr. With the combined agencies I am connected with, I can modesty earn up to 20,000-30,000 pesos annually (not bad) with 600-1,000 images in my portfolio and for sure you can do it too with little patience.

And don't expect magic that your photos will be sold right away, just wait around 3-4 months before your photos can actually start raking few dollar each. Just be particular with the technical aspect since this stock agencies are very particular with blurred images, ISO noise, Dept Of Field and lighting.

Guidelines are provided by this stock agencies, you can give it a try.
